Design by Christian Ghion, 2012.
The perfect shape, both smooth and slightly wrinkled; seemingly fragile, yet highly resistant to pressure — this is what captivates designer Christian Ghion about the simple and fascinating basic egg. Together with renowned French chef Pierre Gagnaire, Ghion has designed a collection of objects around the theme of "Autour de l'oeuf".
Alessi's CGH03 - Atomium Egg Holder presents the egg in its entirety. It stacks easily to save space, and is available in White or Yellow.
Dimensions: 3.5" Dia X 1.5" H
Designer: Christian Ghion
Born in 1958 in Montmorency, France, Christian Ghion received a law degree in Paris in 1982. He later studied at l'Ecole du Louvre and l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), graduating in 1987.
The same year, he created, with his friend Patrick Nadeau, his own studio Ghion-Nadeau and, working on objects, furniture, set and interior design, he began to make a name for himself as a designer: in 1990, he was granted the "Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris" award.
Travels in Asia gave him a great interest in new forms and original materials, both raw and man-made, that he mixes in his designs, reworking archetypes of iconography and constructing his pieces on play with elementary volumes.
The various products that he designs always come with a twist, a play on the forms — no formalism in his work, but a light fantasy and seduction. The ability to create highly innovative product using ancient savoir-faire he showed in his collaboration with Murano glassblowers or the surprising reinterpretations of classic decoration accessories earned him a worldwide reputation and his pieces belong to the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, and many other collections across the globe.View other products by Christian Ghion
Alessi. Art and Poetry.
Alessi is a family owned Italian design company, founded in 1921. Giovanni Alessi, a talented sheet metal worker, produced items by hand for the table and home out of copper, brass and nickel-silver. He was later joined by his son Carlo who was responsible for many of the designs produced in the 1930s and early 1940s. In the mid 1940s Alessi began to work with outside designers. The current Alessi catalog is the result of a collaboration with over 500 designers from all over the world.
"A true work of design must be able to move people, to convey feelings, to trigger memories, to surprise, to go against the grain. From this point of view, design intended to conjure up images in people's minds, which makes them a bit happier, still has tremendous potential." — Alberto AlessiView other products from Alessi
