MT04 - La Stanza dello Scirocco Citrus Basket - Stainless Steel

Design by Mario Trimarchi, 2009.
The La Stanza dello Scirocco range features geometrically irregular items made up of small rectangular splinters interlaced in an unstable balance. Designer Mario Trimarchi was inspired by the " abstract and motionless atmosphere of a magic place: the room in large Sicilian country homes where one is forced to seek shelter from the sultriness while waiting for the scirocco to die down. It is a room without windows in which you can do nothing but ponder the wind that is undoing all sublunary things outside."
The MT04 Citrus Basket offers a peek into the images of shadows seen in such a room with an interplay of light and shadow between its airy form and the contents within. Its deep interior is ideal for holding citrus from lemons to citrons. Made of mirror polished 18/10 stainless steel.
Inspired by the interplay of subtle shadowing and light, Alessi's La Stanza dello Scirocco Citrus Basket is a sculptural, airy vessel worthy of beautiful contents - or none at all. Made of mirror-polished 18/10 stainless steel.

Mario Trimarchi was born in Sicily and has lived and worked in Milan since 1983. An architect of the "freehand" generation, he has always moved freely within the visual universe and considers drawing, photography, design and image as equal components with the same theoretical approach.
Between 1994 and 1998 Trimarchi was Director of Advanced Design at the Domus Academy and from 1989 to 2000 was part of the Olivetti Design Studio, where he worked with Michele De Lucchi. In 1999 he founded his own Corporate Identity Care studio, FRAGILE. With FRAGILE he designs systems of identity, coordinated image and visual alphabets through which diverse individualities can be expressed.
Trimarchi has designed many trademarks, most notably for Poste Italiane, the graphics for numerous large exhibitions, communications systems for Italian design companies and many displays and interiors.View other products by Mario Trimarchi
Alessi is a family owned Italian design company, founded in 1921. Giovanni Alessi, a talented sheet metal worker, produced items by hand for the table and home out of copper, brass and nickel-silver. He was later joined by his son Carlo who was responsible for many of the designs produced in the 1930s and early 1940s. In the mid 1940s Alessi began to work with outside designers. The current Alessi catalog is the result of a collaboration with over 500 designers from all over the world.
"A true work of design must be able to move people, to convey feelings, to trigger memories, to surprise, to go against the grain. From this point of view, design intended to conjure up images in people's minds, which makes them a bit happier, still has tremendous potential." — Alberto AlessiView other products from Alessi
