The PCH04 Tray by Pierre Charpin represents an almost "classic" redesign of an object whose use is an essential part of our domestic landscape, recalling the "gallery trays" from the 18th and 19th centuries.

With a deep interest in the design of existing objects, Pierre Charpin notes that the task of redesigning is essential to reclaiming "the world that already exists, of which we are inevitably the heirs."

Alessi's PCH04 Tray is made of mirror-polished 18/10 stainless steel.

Designer: Pierre Charpin

Pierre Charpin was born in 1962 in Saint-Mandé (Paris). An artist by education, his devotion to the design of furniture and objects dates from the beginning of the 1990s. In 2004 he won a competition for the design of a water carafe for the Société Anonyme de Gestion des Eaux de Paris (Paris Waterworks), the carafe "Eau de Paris".

Charpin's "Triplo" vase, produced by Venini, appears in the selection of the Compasso d' Oro 2005. He was elected Creator of the Year (2005) by the Paris Furniture Fair. He has several personal shows and several of his pieces are included in the collections of the FNAC (National Foundation for Contemporary Art) of the Georges Pompidou center and of the Decorative Arts Museum of Paris.

Alessi is a family owned Italian design company, founded in 1921. Giovanni Alessi, a talented sheet metal worker, produced items by hand for the table and home out of copper, brass and nickel-silver. He was later joined by his son Carlo who was responsible for many of the designs produced in the 1930s and early 1940s. In the mid 1940s Alessi began to work with outside designers. The current Alessi catalog is the result of a collaboration with over 500 designers from all over the world.
