The head of a large and successful family of objects designed for Alessi by Graves in the 80's and 90's, this was the first product by an American designer to be included in the Alessi catalog. It opened the way for the playful design style that subsequently characterized the 90's. Michael Graves
Born in Indianapolis, he teaches architecture in Princeton since 1962. His architectural works include the Portland Building and the Humana Building, the extension of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Newark Museum. He created the best-selling 9093 kettle for Alessi.

I Love This Whistling Kettle
I previously owned this kettle for two years but had to get a mew one one when I accidentally forgot about the original one as it boiled away on the stove for too long. As a result, the plastic bird whistle and sphere on the lid melted; the inside bottom of the kettle turned black; and the outside bottom of the kettle turned a copper-color. I love this kettle so much that I bought a second one--this time from YLiving. It took a few weeks to ship, but it was worth the wait! I'll never leave it on the stove for too long every again.

This is a work of art.
A kettle sits on the stove and can be used to heat water but this one is a work of art to please anyone even while it is not being used. Functionally it does the job but be sure to take the spout bird off carefully and perhaps with hand protection. Visually, I just look its looks.

Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
