La Cupola, presented four years after La Conica, is the latest development in Aldo Rossi's on-going research into coffee makers. Cast from aluminum and sold at around a third of the price of its older sister (which is made from stainless steel and has a thick copper base), it is Rossi's answer to the classic espresso coffee maker, and his attempt to fulfill his dream of a "coffee maker for all".

Aldo Rossi
Born in Milan (1931-1997), he is considered by many to be the greatest Italian architect of the second half of the 20th century. His life as an architect started with Gardella and Zanuso. An author of abstraction, reduction and brevitas, his severe language of primary shapes, geometrical patterns and silent evocation created some of the most intensely poetic works of architecture and design in his age.
Designed in the early 30's, the espresso maker is the last true "invention" among the various coffee making methods in use on our planet. Characterized by quick preparation, concentrated volume and the intense aroma and flavor of the coffee produced by passing water vertically upwards through the coffee grounds, it does not just symbolize Italian coffee, but has also become the typical coffee making method in all the European countries of the Mediterranean basin. La Cupola was designed by Aldo Rossi in 1985. The espresso maker is made of cast aluminum with a polyamide handle. The boiler has a thick flanged aluminum base to guarantee even heat distribution and shield the body from flame.
