Designer Richard Sapper has let himself be tempted by the challenge of designing an "entry level" coffee maker, producing an article worthy of someone of his caliber - one which recalls the expressive themes he holds dear, such as regular volumes (truncated conical and cylindrical) and handles made of molded and folded plate. The result is a "typically Alessi" product, offered to the public at by far the lowest price of Alessi's entire range of stainless steel coffee makers.

Born in Munich in 1932, he studied philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering and economics. Ten times winner of the Compassi d'Oro, his prime interest is the design of technically complex objects, from ships to watches.

Excellent design by Richard Sapper for Alessi.
A simple and effective design. Consistently brews great espresso. Easy to use and easy to clean. The molded plate handle does not get hot so no danger to anyone picking up the pot.
Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
