Design by Miguel Milá, 1961.
By Santa & Cole.
The most celebrated piece by a master of Spanish design, the TMM Floor Lamp is an exquisite demonstration of formal serenity and functional efficiency. The drum-shaped height adjustable parchment shade moves over a vertical axis projecting the light downward, for reading or working, or upwards for general effect.
The wooden shaft has two sections, the lower half is square and connected to the cross-shaped foot, and the upper half is cylindrical to allow the shade to move freely. The height of the shade can be adjusted by means of a rubber slide. There is no switch — the lamp is turned on and off with a gentle flick of a black cotton cord. Available in wenge wood with a natural parchment shade.
Recipient of the ADI FAD Critics Prize, 1962.
Material(s): Wood, parchment
Bulbs: 1 X 100W 120V E26 medium base incandescent bulb (not included)
Designer: Miguel Mila
Born in Barcelona in 1931, Miguel Milá began his professional practice in 1950 in the architecture firm of his brother Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa. Eight years later, he created his own design studio and since then he has based his career in Catalan and Spanish design. He has followed Bauhaus' rationalism, though he has based the aesthetics of his objects in the simplification of shapes and elements, in search for maximum functionality.
Miguel Milá has come to be a classic figure in design. In fact, he almost represents the history of Catalan modern design. His work has focused on bringing tradition up to date and many of his products remain popular, "thanks to having been born at a time when rigor and honesty were high values", states Milá. In 1987, he was acknowledged with the Premio Nacional de Diseño and in 2008 he received the Compasso d'Oro in recognition of his career history and his contribution to the promotion of Spanish design.View other products by Miguel Mila
