Design by Kiel Mead.
Made in the U.S.A. by Areaware.

The Driftwood Hooks give new life to commonly overlooked beach debris. Found in New York, made in New York: designer Kiel Mead scours the shores of New York state and hand picks particular pieces of beached driftwood. After a thorough process of cleaning, bleaching, and staining, the seasoned wood is reinvented as a useful and colorful hook that works in a variety of spaces. The individual shape and size of each piece allows for a unique experience no matter which of the 10 colors you choose from. Dye shades vary slightly, and sizes will range between 7 and 12 inches.

Kiel Mead

Kiel Mead sees past the ordinary. Where people see an unassuming piece of driftwood or even a dental retainer, Mead understands the object's astonishing potential. As a graduate of Pratt Institute of Art, he has learned to harness his unique ability to give life to everyday objects. The results are whimsical pieces that surprise everyone. Though Mead's jewelry and object making hub is in New York City, his pieces have traveled to numerous museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Furthermore, his work has been featured in The New York Times, InStyle and New York Magazine. One of the most exciting things about Kiel Mead is seeing what he comes up with next. After you view his work, you'll never see a piece of gum or other found objects the same way again.
