Throughout his work, Tord Boontje explores juxtapositions of the old and new, naturalism and technology. Born in the Netherlands in 1968, he studied industrial design at the Eindhoven Design Academy before enrolling at the Royal College of Art in London. The launch of Tord's Wednesday Collection marks an evolution in Tord's work. The Wednesday Collection harnesses advanced technologies to unexpected materials. Tord has developed a romantic and poetic aesthetic, depicting nature combined with a flair for vibrant colour.
Following the success of the Wednesday Collection, Habitat's production of his Wednesday light (the renowned Garland light), and his continued alliance with Swarovski, designing chandeliers for their Crystal Palace project, he was nominated for the Designer Of The Year Award at the Design Museum 2003. Tord was nominated Designer of the Year by Elle Decoration UK and the Garland Light won the awards for best light and readers choice for Future Classic.

Great product... the online shipping system needs revision.
I used a price match after finding a lower price on another site. Luke (the customer service rep that I now know by name) responded quickly via email with my matching price. I opted for the bronze Ivy Panels, but when they arrived I decided I preferred the silver. I ordered three of the silver and contacted Luke (again) via phone for the return procedure. He emailed me a return number and I shipped the product off.
The good: great product and there was always a customer service rep available by phone (during working hours) who was familiar with my purchase.
The bad: I needed to contact this customer service rep repeatedly because none of the orders I received came with receipts or invoices in the box. The pending credit card charge was more than what was eventually charged to the card due to the price match (a simple written explanation would have prevented me from needing to ask). After ordering three silver ivy panels I only received one in the mail (with no explanation as to why). When I called Luke informed me that YLiving was out of stock, and they would ship me the other two by the end of the month (again, fine but just let me know by including a note in the box...).
As of now I'm still waiting to receive the other two ivy panels and see the credit back on my account for the panel that was returned. Assuming everything finally comes though I will shop with YLiving again, but only if I'm 100% sure about not needing to return the product.
Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
