An Alvar Aalto Design. Reinterpreted by Mike Meire.
A quintessential piece of modern design, Stool 60 is one of the best-known design items in the world, and an iconic piece in the Artek collection. Today, it is being revisited by international designers including product design house Monocle. This unique interpretation pairs the iconic Stool 60 bent birch wood legs with an upholstered leather seat in supple brown moose leather.
It was now 80 years ago, that designer and Artek co-founder Alvar Aalto launched his Stool 60 to great acclaim. The simple, stackable and durable wooden stool represented a new approach to furniture design with the revolutionary use of wood instead of bent steel as was traditional at the time. And the ground breaking Stool 60 proved a durable and modern solution that would influence a large number of today's classic designs. Throughout 2013, Artek commemorates Stool 60's 80th Anniversary by introducing a series of limited edition stools, designed by a select few architects and designers.
