Design by Adrien Gardère.
By Artemide.

The Melampo Table Lamp is a true chameleon: it masquerades as a standard table lamp with a regular shade, but the shade can be pivoted about the bulb assembly, to completely change its look and the lighting effect. Melampo's adjustable diffuser, in pale grey (for grey version) or beige (for bronze version) silk and polycarbonate fiber blend, has an inner adjustment assembly in anodized aluminum. When the shade is rotated, the stem locks into a groove in the shade, allowing adjustment to full downward, 30° upward and full upward positions.

The Melampo Table Lamp provides direct and indirect diffused incandescent or fluorescent lighting. The base is made of die-cast aluminum with an extruded aluminum stem in a matte aluminum grey or bronze powder coated finish. On/off switch on cord.

Renowned lighting series issued by Artemide include the versatile Tizio and Tolomeo, Logico, Melampo, Castore, and color-changing Metamorfosi. Other design classics that Artemide still produces include the unique Boalum, Nesso and Fatto. Over the years, many designers have created beautiful works of lighting art for Artemide, including Michele De Lucchi, Livio Castiglioni, Gianfranco Frattini, Vico Magistretti, Richard Sapper and Giancarlo Fassina. More recently, Ron Rezek's line of practical and affordable designs, including many wall sconces, bath lights and mirrors was acquired by Artemide.

Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini is an Italian architect and designer, who graduated with a degree in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1953. He is a member of the generation that created the Italian design movement in the late 1950s through the 1960s.

Frattini opened his own professional practice in Milan after having worked in the office of his teacher and mentor Gio Ponti, and became an industrial designer by default. His collaboration with Cesare Cassina for his namesake company started in 1954, followed by collaborations with many other manufacturers, such as Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Fantoni, Artemide, Luci, Knoll, Lema and many others.

In 1956 he co-founded Associazione per il Disegno Industriale. Throughout his career, he practiced both industrial design and architecture, focusing mostly on interiors. Frattini won many professional awards and prizes, among them the prestigious Compasso d’Oro.
