Design by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassino, 1987.
By Artemide.

In 1989, when the Tolomeo Table/Task was given the Compasso d'Oro award for Italian industrial design it was credited with having achieved the perfect marriage between design and engineering that works together in total "sync" to materialize an idea and create the perfect object for industrial production. Since then, the Tolomeo's award-winning design, engineering and performance features have been further refined in a complete series of models for table, floor, wall, track and suspension application.

This is the classic table lamp. It features a fully-adjustable, articulated arm body structure in extruded, brilliant, natural Anodized Aluminum, White or Black. For all finishes - joints, tension control knobs and mountings are polished die-cast aluminum, and cables are stainless steel. The 6" diameter diffuser is made of stamped, anodized matte aluminum, tiltable and 360 degree rotatable on lamp holder with incorporated on/off switch.

Michele de Lucchi

Born in 1951 in Ferrara, Italy, Michele De Lucchi studied in Padua and Florence, graduating with his architectural degree in 1975. A prominent symbol in experimental architecture, Michele De Lucchi was well known in the Cavart, Alchymia and Memphis movements. Not only has he designed lighting fixtures and furniture for the most prominent producers in Europe, he has developed many theories of the evolution of the workplace, and accomplished "experimental products" for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra.

In 1973 Michele De Lucchi partnered with other designers and architects to create Cavert, which was considered a radical design group during that time. Kartell discovered his artistry in 1978 and hired him in Milan to design for Centrokappa. He later met up with Ettore Sottsass and joined the Studio Alchimia designers. Between his many creations he became a design consultant for Olivetti in 1979. In 1990 Michele De Lucchi founded a small lighting company, Produzione Privata, to produce lighting that could disregard the requirements of mass production and be made by craftsmen using traditional techniques.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to its reputation The lamp is everything I had hoped it would be, totally functional and stylish at the same time. Service from YLiving was also excellent, I received the lamp within days of ordering. Overall, a great purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It doesn't work? I purchased a lovely Tolomeo lamp four months ago. I kept it in the box and just gave it to my daughter as a present, but it doen't turn on? How is that possible? I have tried several bulbs but no results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent purchase. Brings an air of class to my otherwise cluttered office environment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool crisp lines with a twist on simple modern. My husband bought me the silver large version of this lamp for my office. I saw it online, but really wasn't as hyped about it as he was. Then he set it up and I was Wow'd by it! It's clean, linear, and sleek color are hard not to like. The base even though shiny has great texture with the striations and adds to the cool brushed metal lines of the piece. He made the right call and I'm super stoked each day that I turn it on...it's a work of art in a simple modern way. Also, a side note: I was watching Rizzoli & Isles on TNT & guess what light they had on all the officer's desk....you got it, my lamp!! I was like a proud Momma!! (thanks to my husband--of course!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish, functional Tolomeo looks terrific on my desk! YLighting shipped my lamp promptly and connecting the shade and arm to its 9" base was a snap. I have my Tolomeo on the desk in my home office. Its hinged design allows me to direct light wherever I need it, and nowhere else. Plus, it makes a drop-dead gorgeous companion to the MacBook Pro I work at. Here's a hint: A standard 100 watt bulb emits a lot of heat and leaves the shade warm to the touch -- a compact fluorescent bulb will provide the same brightness and leave the shade (and you) cool. The Tolomeo is pricey. But if you can afford it -- or have a stimulus check burning a hole in your pocket -- I highly recommend that you grace your desk or home office with this lamp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality! I've always wanted one of these... I've been a fan of Artemide lighting for some time now, and also love my Tizio. I had a hard time deciding between the Tolomeo Micro, Mini or Classic, but went for the full size Classic in the end. I'm pleased with this decision, but it's definitely a large desk lamp and not suitable for a small desk or office. You can alter the brightness of the lamp through use of different bulbs, however I would love this lamp just a bit more if it had two levels like the Tizio, or perhaps a dimmer switch...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just a desk lamp any more.... I have several of these and they've always been a stand by for my office. Recently I've tried them as a bed side table and I'm very happy with the results. Because of the adjustable arm, you can direct the light to a reading position. Or just as easily, you can swing the shade up and towards the wall as an indirect accent light. I've just tried two of the black finish and they are beautiful in person. A nice matte finish that does not show any prints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's both beautifully designed and incredibly functional. I'm using the Tolomeo Classic table lamp with the desk clamp base. Having had other simple desk lamps in the past, I had no idea the gravity-defying positions I'd be able to contort the Tolomeo into. I'm a graphic designer, so on any given day I may be sketching in my notebook, assembling paste-ups, or working on the computer well into the night, and the Tolomeo has illuminated it all with great grace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Function and Beauty Function and beauty, everything that a wife of an architect desires in a lamp! (He loves it too.) The Tolomeo is a great reading/bedside light. It's thoughtful design allows it to move with fluidity and stability into endless positions. Due to its height, it arches perfectly over a bed, putting the light exactly where you need it in order to read. Love how thin and unobtrusive it appears on a table.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect task lamp for my work table. I have owned two Tolomeo reading lamps for many years and they have been incredible in terms of function and appearance. When it came time to look for a new task lamp for my work table, I naturally turned to the Tolomeo line. I am totally satisfied with my lamp: the span of the fixture is perfect for the size of my table. It looks great and is a perfect addition to my studio.

Is this model the Tolomeo lamps medium?  Can this be hung on the wall or is it just the mini model that can be done?

Asked by: alfaro94
Thanks for your interest in this design. The Tolomeo series is one of our most popular lines. There a numerous versions, this one being the "classic" table version, which has the following dimensions: 25.5" high and 30.75" long (top bracket not extended). There are two smaller sizes available, the micro and the mini, and the maxi is the larger version, so I suppose this would in fact be considered the medium version. If you wanted the wall mount version, search for "Tolomeo Classic Wall Light," which has the exact same dimensions as this one but without the base. It is also available with either an S or a J bracket. Should you require some additional clarification beyond this and would like to speak to a product specialist directly, feel free to give us a call anytime at 866.842.6209 and we can assist you. If I order one with the additional base, can I also get the table clamp include?

Asked by: tchen24
Hi there. So for these fixtures you need to specify one particular type of base via the drop down, so the fixture would not come with two bases. What we could do for you if you like however is order you just the additional "table base" as a separate parts order, meaning that you would have the same lamp that could be swapped out between either base. All parts inquiries are accepted via email, so send a quick email to parts@ylighting.com with your name, best contact information, and the part you are hoping to replace. Make sure to reference the original fixture as well, so that the process goes a bit faster. From there, our parts team will create a custom invoice for you and reach out to the manufacturer directly for pricing and availability. You can call in payment at a later time. We look forward to your email, and thanks for contacting us! Parin YLighting Customer Service

what is the inset pivot? what is its function?

Asked by: Granny
The Tolomeo Classic Table Lamp from Artemide has various base options depending on the best choice for your desk. In the accessories tab, you can select a base, clip or the in-set pivot option. The in-set pivot is a mounting piece that you insert into a drilled hole in a desk top to allow mobility for the lamp. If you have additional questions we are always happy to help! Our product specialists are available over the phone to help you with a quote or to check the availability of a specific product that may work for your project. does the lamp not include a table base?

Asked by: sadierose
Hi Sadierose! Artemide offers a table base as one of three base options for this popular Tolomeo Classic Table Lamp. The other two are a table clamp; and an inset pivot which you have to drill a hole into your table according to where you would like to place it for a more permanent option. The 9" table base option comes in your choice of black or aluminum. Click on the “Base” Box after you chose the Body to build the lamp that suits your needs. Do you sell the bulb for the desk lamp. Bought in europe

Asked by: Elain
Hi there! With very few specialty options, we do not sell bulbs alone for any of our fixtures. We refer our clients to bulb-only retailers like 1000bulbs.com, bulbs.com, or bulbman.com to order replacement bulbs. We ourselves refer to these sites all the time to compare bulb options. Thanks for reaching out. Please feel free to contact us anytime at 866.842.6209 with any further questions about this product, or to follow up with anything else. We're here to help!
