By Artemide.

In 1989, when the Tolomeo table/task was given the Compasso d'Oro award for Italian industrial design it was credited with having achieved the perfect marriage between design and engineering that works together in total "sync" to materialize an idea and create the perfect object for industrial production. Since then, the Tolomeo's award-winning design, engineering and performance features have been further refined in a complete series of models for table, floor, wall, track and suspension application.

The Tolomeo Micro LED Table Lamp provides adjustable direct task LED lighting with a fully adjustable, articulated arm body structure in extruded, natural anodized aluminum. Joints and tension control knobs are made of polished die-cast aluminum with internal tension springs and external tension control cables in stainless steel. The aluminum and polycarbonate diffuser has an incorporated touch dimmer.

Available table mountings include: 6.75" diameter base of weighted steel with a stamped aluminum cover, a table clamp in die-cast aluminum (maximum opening 2.75") or an in-set pivot in die-cast aluminum (maximum table thickness of 3" with a 0.75" diameter hole).

Michele De Lucchi

Designer: Michele De Lucchi

Born in 1951 in Ferrara, Italy, Michele De Lucchi studied in Padua and Florence, graduating with his architectural degree in 1975. A prominent symbol in experimental architecture, Michele De Lucchi was well known in the Cavart, Alchymia and Memphis movements. Not only has he designed lighting fixtures and furniture for the most prominent producers in Europe, he has developed many theories of the evolution of the workplace, and accomplished "experimental products" for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra.

In 1973 Michele De Lucchi partnered with other designers and architects to create Cavert, which was considered a radical design group during that time. Kartell discovered his artistry in 1978 and hired him in Milan to design for Centrokappa. He later met up with Ettore Sottsass and joined the Studio Alchimia designers. Between his many creations he became a design consultant for Olivetti in 1979. In 1990 Michele De Lucchi founded a small lighting company, Produzione Privata, to produce lighting that could disregard the requirements of mass production and be made by craftsmen using traditional techniques.
