Sleek, smooth and functional is an apt description of René Holten's Low Lotus. Made from Cristalplant, a new composite material that's snow-white, as hard as marble, soft to the touch and easy to clean.
The design of the Low Lotus stretches the frontiers of this material to its limits. The way in which the molded tablet flows into the shell is only possible with this sort of composite material. The central stainless-steel base with its four slim legs emphasizes the sloping shape of the shell. The Low Lotus has been designed for the home market with a broader seat pan than its cousin, Lotus, and a smaller side tablet for drinks, books, etc. This Upholstered version features upholstered seating fully covering the interior seat back and seat pan. Also offered in Non-Upholstered and Upholstered Seat versions. Good Industrial Design Award, 2008.

Designer: René Holten
René Holten is a graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven. His first design for Artifort was the DoDo in 1997, which immediately won the prize for best Dutch Furniture Design in 1998. Holten likes the sober, clean lines of Artifort seats and sofas, and his designs are a true fit. His design, the Lotus, received the award for Good Industrial Design in 2009. And his Mare & More Mare sofa series is a favorite in many living rooms.
