That is why AUTHENTICS manufactures simple, functional and industrially produced design products for everyday use. In close cooperation with a group of international designers, AUTHENTICS has developed a worldwide renowned collection encompassing more than 100 products and covering the categories: Kitchen, Tabletop, Waste Management, Bathroom, Sports and Travel.
The key to AUTHENTICS' exceptional competency lies in intelligent product development as well as the use of the most modern materials and production technologies. For AUTHENTICS, considering a new object of everyday use means, above all, reflecting on the typical qualities of the product. Because it is precisely this typicalness that defines the product and gives it its authenticity. This becomes the basis for a contemporary design, which is, thus, alive and genuine.
Top designers such as Konstantin Grcic, Stefan Diez, Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Tord Boontje, Ed Annink, Shin Azumi, Marti Guíxé and, in the future, Markus Boge & Patrick Frey, have been entrusted with the implementation of this demand for authenticity on every single product. In this spirit, AUTHENTICS continues to work tirelessly on the evolution of our culture of daily life.
AUTHENTICS has won numerous design awards — including the Red Dot Award, the IF Design Award and the Design Plus Award.
AUTHENTICS products are also part of the new collection in the Pinakothek der Moderne (Museum of Modern Art) in Munich — and currently on display at the "On Off" work exhibition in the Haus der Kunst (House of Art), in Munich as well as in the "V+W Design Matrix" exhibition in the MARTa museum in Herford.
Tord Boontje does not believe that modernism means minimalism. In fact, this designer from the Netherlands is not afraid to celebrate the materials he uses in designs. Sometimes this means creating layers and layers of materials. Boontje is also inspired by nature and emotion. For Boontje, nature seems to evoke feelings of wonder. Boontje's Globe Pendant illustrates this idea of thinking about nature as a wild specimen. Something that even glass cannot control. His designs are meant to stimulate the observer's imagination. It's quite hard to not create a narrative or backstory to some of his pieces.
Boontje does not believe that contemporary designs should abandon tradition. Though Boontje, employs some of the latest technology when fabricating his designs, the materials he uses or designs hold some traditional context. Perhaps, this interest in tradition comes from his background. Born in Enchede, Netherlands in 1968, Boontje studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindohoven and went on to earn a Masters from the Royal College of Art in London. Currently, Boonje has set up Studio Tord Boontje in Bourg-Argental, France and teaches at the Royal College of Art. When looking at some of his products, one can almost imagine him wondering through the backwoods of France, making discoveries and feeding his imagination. Boontje was nominated for the Designer Of The Year Award at the Design Museum 2003. Tord was nominated Designer of the Year by Elle Decoration UK and his renowned Garland Light (for Artecnica) won the awards for best light and readers choice for Future Classic.View other products by Studio Tord Boontje
