Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world's first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Behar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
(1930-2013) Born in Philadelphia, 1930. After a longstanding interest in furniture design, Pollock attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn to pursue his studies in modernist aesthetics and construction methods. Upon graduation,Pollock approached the celebrated designer Florence Knoll to inquire about employment and soon after, he began working on his iconic Pollock Chair (657 Lounge Chair) under her supervision. The chair, made of inviting leather and chrome, became an immediate success and a staple in the modern office. Pollock again demonstrated his command of line and material when he conceived the Executive Chair series, featuring the iconic aluminum rim alongside the periphery of the chair. The resulting design was an achievement in structure and aesthetics, and the chair remains a classic in the Knoll portfolio to this day.View other products by Charles Pollock
