Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world's first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Behar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
Arik Levy is a founding partner of the multi-disciplinary design studio, L Design, and has worked across a broad range of projects including product design, industrial design, corporate identity, interior design and stage design. The Paris-based, Israeli born designer has previously designed sets for such esteemed institutions as the Grand Theater de Geneve, the Netherlands Dance Theater, the Finnish National Ballet, and BatSheva Dance, Israel. He has conducted design workshops in universities across Europe, as well as summer workshops for the prestigious Vitra Design Museum.
Born in Tel Aviv, Arik left his graphic design studio and surf shop for Europe at the age of 27. He graduated with a distinction in Industrial Design from the Art Centre of Europe in Switzerland. He subsequently won the SeikoEpson Inc competition and took part in several design exhibitions in Japan. Returning to Europe, Arik applied his innovative concepts and installations to contemporary dance and opera scenography around the world. The winner of many awards, his work has also been exhibited in numerous high profile fairs, galleries, museums and exhibitions.
From his current company, L Design, initiated with business partner Pippo Lionni, Arik and team realise projects in industrial, lighting and product design, interior architecture, signage and packaging, corporate identity and exhibition design within Europe and internationally. Clients have included Vitra, Ligne-Roset, SeikoEpson Inc, Gaia & Gino, L-Oreal, Lanvin, Renault, Tai Ping, Baccarat and Gallery La Fayette.
