Shakespeare in Africa Rug

Shakespeare in Africa Rug

Design by Milton Glaser, 2013. By nanimarquina. A collaboration between Nani Marquina and the graphic designer Milton Glaser has resulted in the astounding Shakespeare in Africa Rug. Glaser overlays two hand-drawn illustrations, a portrait of Shakespeare and a modern interpretation of African tribal patterns, to create a striking trompe l'oeil. From a distance, the portrait plays against the pattern offering a commanding focal point. As the viewer comes closer, the tribal style pattern emerges as the starring role to engross viewers with varying lines and curves. Glaser's use of his signature style, discovering the relationship between seemingly unconnected things, results in a uniquely grand rug statement for modern living spaces. Available only in U.S. and Canadian markets.

Winner of the "Metropolis Likes" award at the 2013 ICFF show.
