I purchased the Dharti Cushion in Olive/Cream. The pillow is well made and the wool felt is reasonably soft. The swirl pattern is actually a string that has been meticulously hand-sewn onto the face of the pillow. The back is covered in the same colored felt as the front without the swirl accent. A zipper runs across the middle. Nice craftsmanship, lovely pillow!
Bholu is the work of Australian designer Jodie Fried. Bholu products are brought to life by traditional artisans from rural and urban communities in India. Each piece is individually hand embroidered or handwoven using ancient techniques, giving each product its own unique and original personality. By using their traditional skills, the artisans gain an income, hence independence and opportunity as well as keeping a traditional craft alive.
With designs that are bold and free, it is Bholu's childlike simplicity that gave the label its intriguing name, a Katchchhi word, describing a term of endearment and also the naivety and free expression of a small child. Part proceeds from the Bholu collection go back to the Bholu Anganwadi Project which has now built a total of 8 preschools with Architects Without Frontiers Australia, in underprivileged communities and have several more under construction, which provides over 280 poor children with love, education and a nutritious meal.
In 2008, Bholu won the Australian Telstra Business Award for Social Responsibility for demonstrated leadership and contribution by a business to the environment, people, education or the community. Most recently Bholu was selected as TIME Magazine's Top 100 Most Influential Green Designs of 2009. Bholu is proudly a Fair Trade and Climate Neutral Company and operates with social and environmental responsibility.View other products from Bholu
