Design by Jess Sorel & Otto Williams, 2009.
The Denizen collection by Coalesse is an attractive alternative to traditional furnishings for elegant functionality in the home or work space. The Denizen Secretary Desk conveys a warm, honest look and feel with veneer, lightly finished with a low sheen to highlight the wood grain, and a cork panel back splash. A pull-out keyboard tray, two spacious file drawers, and smart cord management provide efficient functionality.
The Denizen Secretary Desk features integrated pulls and a slim, brushed nickel base and legs for a clean, uninterrupted aesthetic. Two file drawers offer letter (front-to-back) and legal (side-to-side) filing. Self-close slides on the drawers and keyboard tray keep the space tidy. Exceptional construction features include birch dovetail box drawer interiors and leveling glides with a ¾" adjustment.

WilliamsSorel is a California based design studio established by Otto Williams and Jess Sorel in 2007. Prior to launching their own firm, Otto and Jess were the creative force behind Coalesse, by Steelcase. Their designs for Coalesse won more than 20 awards, most notably for Bix and Topo, two systems, which defied conventional office furniture categories. During their tenure at Coalesse, Otto and Jess developed a passion and reputation for exploring the boundaries between work and life in an effort to humanize the modern workplace.
The designers have said "we are thinking less about categorizing office furniture and residential furniture, and thinking more about the experiences of working and living in spaces, and the artifacts you need to support both narratives simultaneously. There's really a move to allow furniture to be furniture again, as opposed to equipment. In a sense, the office is being dismantled."
Together they hold numerous design and utility patents and their work has been published in Abitare, Azure, Contract, Fast Company, I.D. Magazine, Interior Design, and Metropolis. Otto holds a BFA in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design. Jess holds a BFA in Industrial Design from The California College of the Arts.View other products by WilliamsSorel
Coalesse. For the new work day.
Work has been freed. From offices. From telephone lines. From preconceptions about where it has to happen. That trend is now a fact of life. Work and life are merging. Coalesse products are artfully designed to improve the quality of life at this highly fluid intersection. Comfortable, elegantly purposeful, and beautifully crafted, Coalesse products cross over between homes, offices, and anywhere in-between.
Crossover means homes and offices, meeting rooms and social spaces, private retreats and public places — the fluid intersections of work and life where boundaries are collapsing and creativity is roaming. Coalesse studies the new work day, how people are collaborating, contemplating, and socializing. Then they partner with some of the world's most talented designers to create artful solutions that combine comfort, function, and emotional satisfaction.
Coalesse has partnered with some of the world's most influential designers including Patricia Urquiola, Lievore Altherr Molina, Jean Marie Massaud, and Scott Wilson to create ingenious crossover furniture at the fascinating intersection of life and work.
