Design by Alexander Girard, 1972.
Made in the U.S.A. by Colombia Forest Products.
Introduced to the PLYprints line in Fall 2009, Alexander Girard's Old Sun depicts a playful graphic of interworking triangles in the form of a grinning sun. This iconic Alexander Girard image is hand screenprinted with water-based inks on a U.S. made sustainably-harvested maple plywood panel.
All PLYprints include mounting hardware and have a spacer on the back that allows the panel to float off the wall. The vibrant artworks mix bold colors with the natural graining of the real wood veneers. The wood panels are responsibly made with Columbia Forest Products' soy-based, formaldehyde free PureBond technology to create a safe and green wood based product for your home.

Alexander Girard
Born in New York City and raised in Florence, Italy, Girard was educated in Europe as an architect. Returning to the United States in 1932, his designs defined a new kind of "opulent modernism," a look that became synonymous with 1960's America. His pioneering work in fabric design as well as his innovative commercial and residential interiors, captivated the public with their theatricality. Girard described himself as "a reasonable and sane functionalist, tempered by irrational frivolity."
This new 2009 introduction of PLYprints features the iconic graphics of American design legend Alexander Girard. Offered in 14" x 14", the Old Sun panel features bold graphics and color, mixed with the warm textures of wood to create accessible art for a new generation of Girard fans.

Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
