Frank Lloyd Wright® Usonian™ Sofa Table
Overview
Made in Vermont by Copeland Furniture.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed over 1,100 pieces of furniture during a career that spanned 75 years. The most productive chapter of his design years came in the post war years between 1945 and his death in 1959. His Usonian® houses, designed and built in those years, were the culmination of his life long effort to make quality modern design available to the middle class. The name Usonian® is of Wright's origin, meaning of the United States of North America. These homes and furnishings were intended to make living areas the prominent gathering space for families. Furnishings for this suburban design movement maintained the simplistic principles of prairie style while inviting inhabitants to congregate and entertain in their homes' living and eating spaces.
Today, Copeland Furniture works with archivists at The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in Scottsdale, Arizona to select furniture pieces that best exemplify Wright's design and aesthetic principles - like the Usonian® Collection of occasional tables. This series is derived from Wright's Mossberg House in South Bend, Indiana. The collection's Usonian™ Sofa Table works as a console or side bar in your modern living space. Top and bottom surfaces offer dual spaces for utility or display. This reproduction piece is licensed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and is engraved with Wright's signature and a discreet serial number.

Designer: Frank Lloyd Wright
In his lifetime, and a design career spanning 75 years, Frank Lloyd Wright created some of the most recognizable architectural and interior designs in the world. Born in Wisconsin (1867), Wright began his formal education in 1885 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School for Engineering. He took classes part-time for two semesters, but in 1887, Wright left the university without receiving a degree and moved to Chicago where embarked on his architectural career with firm's like Joseph Lyman Silsbee and then Chicago's premier firm, Adler & Sullivan before beginning his own firm. It was in his own practice that the designer developed his philosophy of "organic architecture" which governed his designs throughout his career.

Manufacturer: Copeland Furniture
For over 35 years, Copeland Furniture has been crafting heirloom quality furniture. At their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bradford, Vermont, the family owned and operated company uses the latest technology along with traditional handcrafting to produce modern classics from sustainably harvested hardwoods. Their natural hardwood furniture features original designs inspired by their New England surroundings with influences in Shaker, Mission, and the Arts & Crafts design movements. It is this combination of elements that characterizes furniture of classic proportion and modern simplicity in Copeland Bedroom, Dining, Home Office and Occasional collections.
Copeland uses traditional cabinetmaking techniques in their factory where maple, cherry, and walnut lumber is cut, sanded, and hand-selected for each piece of furniture. An assembly team devotes special care and attention to ensure that all the joinery is clean, flush, and smooth to the touch. They are committed to building furniture with the best materials and workmanship available today; furniture that will be handed down for future generations to use daily and to enjoy its enduring beauty for years to come.
And thoughtful construction goes beyond technique and materials. This is a company that seeks to reduce its environmental impact, from its initiative to produce water born, formaldehyde free top coat finishes to reduce VOC emissions at the factory and off-gassing at the home to its commitment to using only lumber which comes from within 500 miles of the manufacturing facility, reducing fuel consumption and emissions from transportation. Copeland Furniture complies with Vermont's strict regulations on air quality emissions, hazardous waste, worker safety, and storm water runoff. They work to recycle and reduce packaging material and volatile solvents. They participate with the New England power pool to generate their own electricity during peak usage times, helping to reduce the capacity requirements of the electric utility companies.
Copeland Furniture is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, was awarded Silver Exemplary Membership Status by Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC), and was a recipient of the 2009 Sage Award for Environmental Excellence sponsored by the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA).
