What is the Urban Road Case?

"The Urban Road Case is a revolutionary reusable shipper used to ship our Ledge Wall System. More robust than regular packaging, the Urban Road Case's edges are aluminum and its body is a high strength plastic. Upon receipt of the Road Case, unpack its contents (The Ledge will be wrapped in a flannel), throw the packing material back in the case, attach the enclosed return shipping label and call FedEx for pickup. The Road Case will be returned to Urbancase for reuse."

What was the motivation for creating the Urban Road Case?

"There are several reasons we created the Urban Road Case. The first is to eliminate packing material. Most crates are built using new manufactured materials and as a general rule they are built to last one or two times. It seems like a terrible waste to throw away Styrofoam, bubble wrap, and plywood after one use. Also, many of our customers live in urban areas and the task of disposing the amount of material required to ship a piece of furniture can be daunting. Finally, it’s just really cool. There is something very rewarding about receiving a well made piece of furniture in a virtual strong box. It becomes part of the experience."

How many uses do you get out of each container?

"Unlimited. We don't anticipate having to replace the crates. We may need to perform repairs, but since pieces are replaceable, that should be no problem."

How does the shipping and return process work?

"e;The customer receives the case, they unpack (the piece is wrapped in a flannel), throw the packing material back in the case, attach the enclosed return shipping label and call FedEx for pickup. We encourage customers to put a decal or something on the inside to let others know where it's been."

On what products is the Urban Road Case packaging available now? Could it work on all your products?

"We're still testing them, so they are only available to ship the Ledge Wall System. They're expensive so we want to be sure it will work. But, if all goes as planned, we will offer it on multiple products."
