Angelo Mangiarotti

Angelo Mangiarotti was born in Milan on February 26th, 1921. He graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1948 at Politecnico di Milano. In 1953-1954 he worked in the United States, participating in the in the "Loop" design competition in Chicago. During his stay abroad he met well-known architects of the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann.

His activity as a designer has been marked by numerous awards, both in the design and construction fields, including the Domus Formica award in 1956, the In/Arch per la Lombardia award in 1962, the Primo Premio Nazionale del Golfo di La Spezia per l'Industrial Design in 1963, the AIP award for industrial construction works in 1972, the Prix Européen de la Construction Métallique in 1979, medal and honorary degree at the 3rd edition of the International Architecture Biennial in Sofia in 1986, the first prize at the "Targa Alcan" competition for the application of aluminium to architecture in 1989, special mention at the In/Arch Premio Nazionale in 1989 for the industrial manufacturing of a construction element; in 1991 the Design Plus award for the "Ergonomica" table collection. Finally, in 1994 he was honoured with an award as part of the 1994 Marble Architecture Awards for design projects using stone material and the ADI Compasso d'oro for career achievements.
