Samuel's career in furniture began through his love of woodworking as a schoolboy. His formal training culminated in a Masters in Furniture Design from Buckinghamshire Chiltern University in the UK. After graduation, he was given a thorough grounding in the industry through several years in hotel interior design. In 1995 he set up his own company, Channels, with a studio-showroom in London's Chelsea neighborhood, and a furniture workshop in the English Midlands.
Samuel's designs have received several awards. His 2007 series of book towers won the Best Furniture Category of the Classic Design Awards given by the Victoria and Albert Museum. His 2008 collection, which includes the Motley drums, received three Design Guild Marks from the historic Company of Furniture Makers.
