Sir Terence Conran is one of the worlds best-known designers, restaurateurs and retailers. Born in 1931 in Kingston upon Thames, he founded the Habitat chain of home furnishings stores that revolutionized the UK High Street in the 1960s and 1970s by bringing intelligent, modern design within reach of the general population.
Today he is Chairman of the Conran Group which owns restaurants, shops and hotels in exciting cities around the world and has a thriving architecture and design practice Conran & Partners, who work on major projects worldwide with a particular focus on Asia where they are working on major projects in India, Japan, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
Sir Terence Conran was knighted in 1983. He is a winner of the Chartered Society of Designers Minerva Medal, the Societys highest award. Since 2003, he has been provost of the Royal College of Art. That was also the year he received the Prince Phillip Designers Prize, in recognition of his lifetime achievements in design. In 2007, he received an honorary degree from London South Bank University. He has written over 50 informative books selling over 30 million copies of his publications worldwide.
