Design by Philippe Starck, 2001.
A surprising 4 pounds of ultra-durable, ultra-versatile seating. Match with a variety of Emeco lines or place several together for a stunning, casual seating area. Also available in 24" and 30" sizes. Handmade from 80% recycled aluminum. Designed to last for 150 years. The Emeco 18" Barstool is tempered for ultimate strength in a proprietary three-step process. Emeco is the only company in the world to do this.
The prototype version of this stool was first used in 2001 for the Mies van der Rohe retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City for a recreated cafe that Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich originally designed, a beautiful space with waving curtains. The museum selected these stools as pieces that might have been chosen by Mies van der Rohe today.
Emeco furniture is hand welded and hand brushed for a warm, uniform finish. Weld lines are natural and always visible, and can range from very light to slightly darker than the adjoining aluminum surface. All Emeco furniture will exhibit slight variations of handcraft.
Material(s): 80% Recycled aluminum

I already had the Navy chairs but needed stools - so glad i found these. They fit perfectly under the table to save space, and are very comfortable.

Emeco has an interesting history beginning in 1944 with the 1006 Navy chair, the granddaddy of Emeco that was designed to withstand the harsh environment on a Navy ship. (Legend has it, the seat of the Emeco 1006 Navy Chair was modeled after the seat of actress Betty Grable.) Since then Emeco has had some new editions, designed by some good friends: Philippe Starck, Frank Gehry and Ettore Sottsass to name a few.
Emeco is a leader when it comes to chair fabrication. Committed to sustainability and protecting the environment, Emeco uses post consumer and post industrial waste to create chairs with ultimate strength, intended to last decades. Chairs admired today and indefinitely. Chairs that span generations and cultures.View other products from Emeco
