Born from one man's passion for glass in 1973, Fiam became Vittorio Livi's dream come true and introduction into the fine work of furniture designing. From a young age, Livi appreciated the fine and complex qualities that came with using glass as a medium; solid and fragile, natural and artificial, ancient and industrial, glass was quite the mélange of seeming contradictions. With its vast potential, Livi's creative mind took his passion for such unique material and used it to drive Fiam's designs to develop and produce pieces through a mix of high quality craftsmanship and industrial processes.
Fiam sees a designer's willingness to take risks with shapes as a welcoming challenge to the technical expertise of the craftsman. Similarly to the designers, Fiam's craftsmen are considered important as each product is precisely crafted and finished at the hands of skilled individuals who are capable of predicting, quantifying, controlling, and finding the best alternatives to ever case. However, the aide of research and innovative technology is not without mention. With the assistance of state of the art machinery, glass can be further perfected and adjusted under the prowess of the master craftsman in order to make the vision of the designers come true and produce the fine products you see today.
Vittorio Livi is an innovator, designer and founder of the acclaimed glass furniture manufacturer, Fiam Italia. In 1962, at the age of 18 , Livi established "Fullet" - the first in a series of glass businesses. Fullet was to produce decorated glasses earmarked for the furniture industry. And a succession of similar businesses followed every few years thereafter. It was in 1973 that Livi established "Fiam Italia", the first company able to manufacture curved glass furniture items. This new platform for both glass and furniture design has attracted many established artists to collaborate with the company over the years - among them: Giorgetto Giugiaro, Enzo Mari, Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Cini Boeri, Vico Magistretti and Makio Hasuike. And Livi has produced several of his own designs under the label, including the Ragno series. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Gold Medal from CCIAA of Pesaro and Urbino, 1988; the Compasso D'Oro Career Award, 2001; the Cultural Prize "Rotondi" of Sassocorvaro, 2006; and the Recognition "Amici di Melvin Jones" from Lions Club International, 2010. Vittorio Livi's Fiam distributes its own collection all over the world and its impressive collection includes items hosted by some 25 international museums.View other products by Vittorio Livi
