Flying Chairs Mobile is inspired by the Trapholt Art Museum situated in the town Kolding on Jutland, Denmark. Trapholt has a permanent exhibition of furniture design. Keeping with Danish designs' proud traditions of creating unique chairs, Ole Flensted extends homage to Arne Jacobsen, BØrge Mogensen, Finn Juhl, Poul Kjaerholm and others of the great chair makers. Although this particular design of Flying Chairs is not for sitting, it is very enjoyable to sit and observe the chairs while they spin and dance.

Flensted Mobiles created its first moving mobile over 50 years ago and the company has been expanding its assortment of playfully engaging and dynamic designs ever since. These modern moving mobiles are designed so that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance.

Flensted Mobiles: It's All in the Family

Flensted Mobiles gave birth to its first design, the Stork Mobile, in Denmark in 1953 when Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe celebrated the birth of their first daughter. Since then, the Stork Mobile, and its successors, have flown all around the world.

As the fledgling family business grew, it relocated to "The Stork's Nest" in Tommerup and eventually to the FLENSTED MOBILE CENTRE in Brenderup, nearly 15 years later, where it remains today. Christian's son, Ole Flensted, and his wife Aase now continue the family tradition. Original ideas and new mobile designs are issued regularly from their "Department of Space Resarch".

Mobiles are a traditional craft in Denmark, but the modern mobile - as a decoration for the home - was pioneered by the Flensted family. All Flensted Mobiles are designed so that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance. The Flensted family has always claimed that "creating mobiles is not just our job, it is our life".

Ole Flensted

Ole Flensted, son of Christian Flensted, carries on the Danish tradition and family business of mobile craftsmanship. Ole is a designer of modern moving mobiles, a type of mobile pioneered by Christian when he began Flensted Mobiles in 1953. This modern generation of mobiles are so designed that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance. Today, Ole and his wife Aase continue the family tradition with new and original mobile designs and live by the philosophy that creating mobiles is not just a job, but their lives.
