Flensted Mobiles: It's All in the Family
Flensted Mobiles gave birth to its first design, the Stork Mobile, in Denmark in 1953 when Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe celebrated the birth of their first daughter. Since then, the Stork Mobile, and its successors, have flown all around the world.
As the fledgling family business grew, it relocated to "The Stork's Nest" in Tommerup and eventually to the FLENSTED MOBILE CENTRE in Brenderup, nearly 15 years later, where it remains today. Christian's son, Ole Flensted, and his wife Aase now continue the family tradition. Original ideas and new mobile designs are issued regularly from their "Department of Space Resarch".
Mobiles are a traditional craft in Denmark, but the modern mobile - as a decoration for the home - was pioneered by the Flensted family. All Flensted Mobiles are designed so that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance. The Flensted family has always claimed that "creating mobiles is not just our job, it is our life".
Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe created their first modern moving mobile in 1953 to celebrate the birth of their first daughter. In 1956 Christian gave up his job to devote his entire effort to the fledgling mobiles business, based in Denmark, which has since taken flight and now delivers mobiles all over the world.
Christian became known as the "Uromager", a name impossible to translate into English, which means a "maker of mischievous things that are always on the move".
Today, his son Ole Flensted carries on the traditional Danish craft of mobiles that has become a family legacy thanks to Christian's pioneering spirit.
