Overview

Design by Florence Knoll, 1961.
By Knoll.

Florence Knoll referred to her 1961 line of desks as the "meat and potatoes" needed to fill in gaps in the Knoll Collection. Her spare, angular designs remain stunning examples of the modern aesthetic. With the 78-Inch Oval Table Desk, select from a range of laminate, veneer and natural, polished or satin (matte) marble tops with Polished Chrome or Satin Chrome base.

Like so many of her groundbreaking designs that became the gold standard for the industry, the 1961 Executive Collection made its way into the pantheon of modern classics. Thoughtful construction of the Florence Knoll 78-Inch Table Desk includes a frame and legs made of heavy gauge welded steel. The post and four-star legs are finished in polished chrome (or optional satin chrome). The table tops are offered in smooth laminate, wood veneer, or marble with bevel-edge.

Select Polished Chrome or Satin Chrome base, then select from a variety of laminate, wood veneer and polished or satin (matte) marble table tops. Also available, the 98-In. Oval Table Desk and Round Table Desk.

Notes:

The KnollStudio logo and Florence Knoll's signature are stamped into base of table. All table desks include adjustable steel glides with a chrome finish. Please note that polyester marble coating will yellow over time.

Returns: No returns are accepted on this product.

Florence Knoll

Designer: Florence Knoll

While a student at the Kingswood School on the campus of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Florence Knoll Bassett (née Schust) became a protegée of Eero Saarinen. She studied architecture at Cranbrook, the Architectural Association in London and the Armour Institute (Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago). She worked briefly for Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Wallace K. Harrison. In 1946, she became a full business and design partner and married Hans Knoll, after which they formed Knoll Associates. She was at once a champion of world-class architects and designers and an exceptional architect in her own right. As a pioneer of the Knoll Planning Unit, she revolutionized interior space planning. Her belief in "total design" — embracing architecture, manufacturing, interior design, textiles, graphics, advertising and presentation — and her application of design principles in solving space problems were radical departures from the standard practice in the 1950s, but were quickly adopted and remain widely used today. For her extraordinary contributions to architecture and design, Florence Knoll was accorded the National Endowment for the Arts' prestigious 2002 National Medal of Arts.
