With roots in Scandinavia, Gubi has made it their quest to rediscover the forgotten icons of the past and unearth the icons of the future by approaching the artistry of design from a global perspective. In their pursuit of acquiring arresting and captivating designs, over the years, Gubi has successfully re-launched the lost mastery of international artists, designers, and architects from the 30s-70s; all of which has resulted in an intriguing collection of pieces that cohesively come together and blur the lines between time, aesthetics, and innovation.
Founded in 1967 by the parents of Jacob and Sebastian, Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen, Gubi originally emerged as a company concentrated on producing Olsen pieces and selling textiles to the retail sector of the market. It was not until Jacob and Sebastian took over did the business take a turn for the better by opening a concept store and introducing an element of fashion into the entirety of the company's life equation. By redirecting the original creative vision, with a driven and modern outlook, Gubi has effectively put themselves on the map and turned themselves into a global player to be reckoned with.
