Overview
Design by Charles & Ray Eames, 1958.
Made in the U.S.A. by Herman Miller.
Herman Miller introduced the Eames Aluminum Group in 1958 as Charles and Ray Eames' response to the need for high-quality indoor-outdoor furniture. It soon moved inside exclusively. This high-back chair with arms has a lightweight polished aluminum frame with suspended upholstery. It has a 5-star base with casters, tilt-swivel mechanism and seat-height adjustment.
The Aluminum Group Executive Chair is now offered with a pneumatic height adjustment feature and tilt lock option. The pneumatic option increases the ease of height adjustment and range of motion to suit a broader range of seating applications and body types, and adds an additional 2" to the chair's height. Tilt lock allows the seat angle to be secured in a neutral position. Herman Miller has painstakingly preserved this classic silhouette and updated its usability for modern applications.
The Aluminum Group, upholstered in traditional fabric or leather, is ribbed at 1-7/8" intervals for a clean, refined appearance and seat pads have layered construction. With one-piece curved aluminum side ribs and an aluminum base, the Eames Aluminum Group Executive Chair is strong, yet lightweight and easy to move. Select Manual or Pneumatic Seat-Height Adjustment and desired caster option. Then select upholstery textile color.

Designer: Charles + Ray Eames
A chair that looked like a potato chip. Another that resembled a "well-used first baseman's mitt." A folding screen that rippled...
With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look."
That look and their relationship with Herman Miller started with molded plywood chairs in the late 1940s and includes the world-renowned Eames lounge chair, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
