Design by Charles & Ray Eames, 1948.
Made in Michigan by Herman Miller.
Charles and Ray Eames adapted molding techniques developed during World War II to mass produce this classic design. Available in side and armchair versions, today's molded plastic chairs are true to the originals and are fully authentic, with updated materials to meet environmental requirements. A clean, simple form sculpted to fit the body; first presented at the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, and still popular today. Their enduring forms and quality construction prove the staying power of good design.
Molded Plastic Armchairs are offered with 2 different metal base options: a Wire or 'Eiffel Tower' base with interconnected legs; and a standard 4-Leg base. The Molded Plastic Armchair is also offered with a Wooden Dowel Leg base.
Designed in 1948, this was the first plastic chair to be mass produced. The current models look exactly the same as the originals and are produced locally in Michigan by Herman Miller, just as the vintage chairs were. The high-impact plastic shells are now manufactured using more environmentally friendly, recyclable polypropylene dyed throughout so colors remain vibrant, even after years of hard use. For extended comfort, the shell is connected to the base by rubber shock mounts. The standard glide is also available with felt to protect hard-surface floors.
Select Wire/Eiffel Tower base or 4-Leg base. Then select from several non-upholstered shell colors.
Material(s): Recyclable polypropylene shell and chrome base

The Eames molded plastic chair is much more comfortable than I anticipated. It looks great in person and the color (aqua sky) is perfect!

Great price, delivery on a wonderful Eames chair, with a great choice of colors and leg base options.
Timeless chair that can easily transition from the bedroom to living room to kitchen to dining.

I love the neutral Sparrow color of this chair. It goes with everything in our apartment and looks great with a pillow or throw on top of it. The metal legs add a nice industrial look. This chair is one of my favorite items in our living room.
One of the best chairs, ever made.

The Eames' sure got it right. This design will never diminish, forever placed in the annals of great American design. The comfort is great, the color is great, and the look is great. Not much more is expected from a chair, let alone a chair design 40+ years old. The new polypropylene shell takes some getting used to (not part of the original design, strange texture to it), but it works well.

Eames molded plastic armchair

Well, it takes forover to get, so don't sit by the door waiting. That said, it came within the timeframe indicated on the website. Apparently they are made to order. It's a fun whimsical chair. Comfortable, (as plastic chairs go), and come in a variety of colors to suit your decor. Mine is a light blue and is in my living room by my desk. Truth be told, I wanted it more as a modern accessory than a burning desire for a desk chair. I like the look it brings to the room, and I am pleased with the color though I wish they offered more blue alternatives. I am all in all satisfied and would purchase again.

This chair is not just nice looking but also very comfortable when sit on. Awesome design! I love it!
Beautiful Chair (by "red" they mean orange)
By: Tanya, Homeowner (Northern Virginia)
This chair is a timeless piece of art in any room. You won't be disappointed in this chair unless you were looking for one in the color red. The red chair is really bright orange so make sure to look at the colors in person or order a swatch before making your selection. (Though YLiving's return policy is excellent, it would cost me half the price of the chair in return shipping, so I'm stuck with my color selection.) YLiving's prices and customer service get an A+.
Sleek and comfortable
By: Roshanak M., Homeowner (Studio City, CA)
We always liked these chairs and finally decided to buy a pair. They look as beautiful in our house as they do in the stores. And they are super comfortable. We bought a pair of white chairs even though we have a 19 month old. Right on the first day he drew with crayons on one of them, and it was super easy to clean off. I am very happy with this purchase.
Simple yet gorgeous piece that adds style to any home.

Versatile chair that can work in a variety of settings - dining, office and/or living room. Super comfortable and sleek plus easy to keep clean and fairly indestructible if kids and pets are part of the household. Purchased for an office but works great when extra sitting is needed inside and out. Went with the white but all the colours are equally as beautiful depending on your needs. Can't go wrong with this chair which will maintain its style and form for years to come.
These classic chairs look amazing.

These chairs transform any room to a lively stylish space, my only complaint is that they could use a cushion for added comfort. But the style and aesthetic more than make up for it. Totally worth it.
Great iconic sytle, premium quality, affordable price, above and beyond customer service.

I experienced fantastic customer support from YLiving when purchasing our Eames Armchair. I emailed the the company when looking for a specific chair for my wife's Christmas present. A return reply was very prompt and informed me that there was only one chair left in stock with all the features that I wanted. They shipped my new chair the next day and i received it within a few days. My wife was thrilled to get her new Eames Armchair! Thanks so much for helping make our Christmas one we will remember for a very long time.
Designer: Charles + Ray Eames
A chair that looked like a potato chip. Another that resembled a "well-used first baseman's mitt." A folding screen that rippled...
With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look."
That look and their relationship with Herman Miller started with molded plywood chairs in the late 1940s and includes the world-renowned Eames lounge chair, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.View other products by Charles + Ray Eames
