Herman Miller's Embody® Chair offers unparalleled ergonomic fit and comfort. This task chair epitomizes luxury in its aesthetics, technical sophistication, and ergonomics.
Thoughtful engineering created a chair that allows the body to move naturally into the most healthful seated postures. Its Pixelated Support™ technology creates dynamic seat and back surfaces that automatically conform to movement and evenly distribute weight. Its frameless, narrow back adapts to the curvature of the spine and allows arms and shoulders to move freely. And its new tilt technology stabilizes the pelvis and supports the spine all the time.
Embody features Adjustable Seat Depth, Adjustable Seat Height, options for no Arms or Fully Adjustable Arms, Adjustable BackFit™ and Adjustable Tilt Limiter.
- Visit our Herman Miller Chair Guide to help you determine which chair is right for you
- Designed for users who spend the vast majority of their time at the keyboard
- Chair encourages a reclined position for working — this is considered the most healthful posture for computer users
- Shifting weight to the chair's back reduces compression of the spine and helps the head and eyes stay aligned with computer display screens
- Ensures that lower-back support remains constant, with no adjustments needed (whether you have a tendency to lean forward or recline at the desk)
- Textile seating uses the kind of spacer and knit constructions used in sneakers and geo-textiles; Textiles are breathable, translucent, and have "loft" for a cushy feel
- Arm choices include no arms or fully adjustable arms that adjust 6" vertically and 6" horizontally
- Seat depth adjusts from 15-18" in six locking positions
- Tilt supports the thoracic spine and stabilizes the pelvis through a deep, balanced recline
- Tilt limiter allows the user to limit the amount of recline
- 5-star base

Great - but not quite so much as I expected!
By: Janot , Homeowner (Massachusetts)
I bought this chair for husband - to celebrate moving into a new studio office after 8 years of cramped shared workspace in what is actually our largest bedroom!! Of course the cool design is important but the criteria that led me to choose the Herman Miller Embody chair were first ergonomic - we spend looong hours sitting at laptops, and close if not tied for first second is comfort - so I ordered the arms to go with the chair. While the chair is nice, I was expecting a bit more size in the seat - my husband is 6'4" but not hefty and yet the chair seems to be right at the borderline of comfortable for him. So borderline that I wish I could get him a larger chair and take this one for myself.. but I'm not likely to make this kind of investment in seating again: )

I recently purchased the embody chair in balance carbon textile with white frame finish. This color combination is contrasting but I didn't want a too dark chair and also was afraid that a too light textile will show dirt easily. The chair is stylish and small enough to look good in any home (as opposed to the bulky chairs found in most stores). It is comfortable and well made and I am planing to buy another one in the future. The only small complaint is the lack of a headrest.
Simply a Great Chair
By: J.T., Homeowner (Iowa)
I purchased an armless, dark brown (regular) fabric, white body version of the Embody for use in a home office. I am normally in the chair at least 8 hours a day. As soon as I put the chair together and sat in it, I liked the way it moved with me, but was a little underwhelmed. Yes, it looked great, but I wasn't convinced it was worth the cost. After a couple of days of use I was working in a different office with a standard office chair for the day. I immediately noticed how different it was. No flexing, no cushy support, I was constantly readjusting to get comfortable. When I got home I sat in the Embody and that is when I realized how amazing it is. It did take some time to get used to, but I love the look, and it has now ruined me from being comfortable in lower quality office chairs.
GOOD PRODUCT BUT COULD BE BETTER
By: Bobby V., Homeowner (New York City, NY)
While the Embody Chair is very comfortable and adjustable it lacks in certain areas. The chair and back should have more padding on them to give the sitter that 'cushiony feeling'. The options on the chair should include a 'leather upholstery' Also the Armrests while adjustable are not a smooth moving mechanism. Herman Miller needs to take a que from steelcases Leap armrests which pivot, move back and forth and up and down. While these are small complaints they would create a more perfect chair. These may be viewed as preferences and may vary by user. Overall: the chair scores a 5 star review as it is comfortable, adjustable, solid and sleek.
Perfect task chair. Great support, super comfortable, works for tall people.
By: Tim C., Designer (Charlotte, NC)
I've been eyeing the Embody chair for years, as it's one of the few that allows for freedom of movement in the shoulders and supports tall people. The expense always put me off, but recently I ran the numbers and realized that the long-term cost of this chair is far less than the long-term health costs of sitting in a poorly designed one. I ordered mango on white, and the chair looks fantastic. It definitely steals focus in the room, so keep that in mind.
Work chair just what I need
By: Greg K., Homeowner (Wellington, FL)
I was looking for the really good looking, ergonomic and reliable work chair for my home office. Herman Miller Embody work chair was attractive for me but too expensive for home office. It was great to select so many options offered by the seller, including fabric, textile, arms, casters and so on. I received the Embody chair in excellent condition, ready to use and from the beginning and up to now I'm quite satisfied with this chair. Great possibilities for adjustment, so it's not difficult to find the comfortable configuration. I would definitely recommend this chair for both home and corporate office.

I publish a niche community magzine that requires that I sit for lenghty periods of time, 12 hours is not unususal. I needed a supportive, adjustable work chair without regard to price, but still with quite a bit of aesthetic appeal. After a search of the internet and competitve brands I bought the Herman Miller Embody Chair based upon the favorable reviews. I want to note the advice I was given by the Y Living designer and freely available fabric samples. The chair arrived in perfect condition and rewiured no set up. Fit and finish is perfect, the chair has a presence but does not overwhelm the room. After a week of adjustments, I learned to sit in the chair comfortably. I began to pay attention to posture and sit upright and take advantage of the supportive features of the chair. Overall, I am completely satisfied.

This chair sits great. It is very customizable to your body. Delivery of the pre-assembled chair took about 2-3 weeks, directly from HM. Make sure you check the fabric swatches (go into a store somewhere to see them all) before deciding between the different types and colors. We found that in real life blue gray looks different and has a very different feel than what shows on the screen.
Comfortable with good support
By: Alice H., Homeowner (Santa Clara, California)
I was shopping for my home office chair and this chair has great spine/lower back support that surprise compared even to the Aeron. The only reason that I didn't give a 5 star is due to the chair is heavier than usual which is hard to move around on carpet and the fabric tend to get dirty very easy if pick a light color.
It's very comfortable chair and good for your spine.
By: Brandon M., Homeowner (NJ)
I like the chair can be customize it. It's the unique color and modern combination. Most important, its very comfortable.
Great product, great site.

Owned herman miller products for the last 10 years (aeron chair) and the new embody is the best chair I have ever had. Everything documented about the product has proven to be 100% accurate and not just marketing fluff.
HERMAN MILLER EMBODY CHAIR IS THE ONLY CHAIR YOU SHOULD OWN
By: Konstantinos A., Designer (Astoria, New York, NY)
When looking into buying a chair for my home & office I have always consider it important to look for a chair that is not just comfortable and durable but aesthetically pleasing too. For years I had purchased chairs that for a modest price would last about a year or two and then start falling apart. Leather office chairs , vinyl chairs, fabric chairs, plastic frame , aluminum etc. They all had an expiration date which promotes the business of repeat purchase. So after experiencing this chair rollover one too many times I decide to try and find a chair that looks good, feels good and would last me a very long time. The Herman Miller Embody is this chair that adjusts in ten different ways & in each way making the chair optimal for the mode of use. Either extremely comfortable to extremely ergonomic for office work and usage. I also want to stress that this chair also accommodates people of large stature and proportions. It has no weight limit but can support up to 500 lbs. It has been called a bariatric wonder by medical websites for heavy people requiring blood circulation while sitting in an office environment. For all these reasons and countless others this chair is both utilitarian , ergonomic, futuristic , ecological and a work of art.
Designer: Jeff Weber
As a kid, Jeff Weber was fascinated by the way things worked. "I was always tinkering — either building things or tearing them apart," he says. Watching his mechanical talents develop, his grandfather suggested that he consider becoming an industrial designer. Once he learned more, "I never really thought about doing anything else," recalls Weber.
Today he uses his considerable talents to improve the human condition by designing products that enhance people's lives — at home and at work. "There should always be a human benefit associated with whatever it is we're designing," he explains. "It's all about the experience, stimulating a person's senses in a positive or beneficial way."
With an emphasis on results, an integral and important aspect in his design process is research. When designing Herman Miller's Embody chair, for example, Weber and the Herman Miller team spent nearly two years talking with experts in various fields of medicine, from specialists in upper-extremity conditions to optometrists and neurologists. It was all in an effort to gain a real understanding of what it takes "to support a body in space in a healthful way and enable motion at the same time," he says.
