Nelson™ Swag Leg Desk
Overview
Design by George Nelson, 1958.
By Herman Miller.
Right-sized desks. It's like they were made to fit today's compact electronics. Colorful cubbyholes at the back keep materials organized and at hand with one slot sized to fit a laptop computer. This contemporary classic desk is open and freeing of space without losing the structural integrity common to desks. The process of "swaging" (using pressure to taper and curve metal) proved the best way to produce the legs, which are 16-gauge steel and have adjustable glides. Nelson added solid walnut stretchers that bolt to the legs for a stable, durable base. Available in a White Laminate or Walnut Veneer top with solid walnut stretcher.
The Nelson Swag Leg Desk is a revival from an historic collection by George Nelson. Introduced in 1958, the group's evocative chairs, tables, and desks have a look, scale, and function that are right for today.

beautiful desk. good for small space.
Classic and versatile design
By: Seosamh , Homeowner (New York)
Desk is very functional and surfaces are easy to clean. We use it as a homework desk for the children and it is a good size for both to compare notes but not too large that it dominates the room. The desk was relatively easy to put together taking about 20 minutes.
Beautiful design
By: Victoria W, Architect (New York)
This is a beautiful desk. It is deeper than many contemporary desks, so take careful measurements when ordering for small spaces. A small design flaw - the pull out tray/drawer has a black plastic edge that feels cheap.
Designer: George Nelson
When writing about the course of his remarkable 50-year career, George Nelson described a series of creative "zaps" — moments of out-of-the-blue inspiration "when the solitary individual finds he is connected with a reality he never dreamed of."
Nelson said that for a designer to deal creatively with human needs, "he must first make a radical, conscious break with all values he identifies as antihuman." Designers also must constantly be aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society. In fact, he declared that "total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything." So he said that rather than specializing, designers must cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.
Nelson did so as few are able, and, with the help of well-timed zaps, he helped define modern, humane design.
