A natural, functional piece for the Swag Leg Line. The look of this piece is light-scaled and sculpted. Ingenious engineering merges four legs into a center post with quad footing. For the shell of his Swag Leg Chair, George Nelson got permission from Charles and Ray Eames to use the patented process they developed for molding plastic. Nelson took the process a step further and created separate seat and back shells that he glued together. The chair shell flexes with the sitter and prevents heat buildup. Wide, flat armrests allow forearms to rest comfortably. With 21st century innovations in technology and material, today's shells are fully authentic and made of recyclable polypropylene.

George Nelson
When writing about the course of his remarkable 50-year career, George Nelson described a series of creative "zaps" — moments of out-of-the-blue inspiration "when the solitary individual finds he is connected with a reality he never dreamed of."
Nelson said that for a designer to deal creatively with human needs, "he must first make a radical, conscious break with all values he identifies as antihuman." Designers also must constantly be aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society. In fact, he declared that "total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything." So he said that rather than specializing, designers must cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.
Nelson did so as few are able, and, with the help of well-timed zaps, he helped define modern, humane design.
The Nelson Swag Molded Chair is a revival from an historic collection by George Nelson. Introduced in 1958, the group's evocative chairs, tables, and desks have a look, scale, and function that are right for today. These classic, sculpted designs can be used individually or together in the home or office, from meeting spaces to offices to dining areas.
The group features tops offered in White Laminate or Walnut Veneer with a Walnut Veneer edge band that coordinates with the solid walnut stretcher. Shells are available in White, Grey, or Black, with the option to order the seat and back in any combination of colors. Select from Chrome, White, or Black for the leg finish.
