Charles and Ray Eames adapted molding techniques developed during World War II to mass produce this classic design. Available in side and armchair versions, today's molded plastic chairs are true to the originals and are fully authentic, with updated materials to meet environmental requirements. Their enduring forms and quality construction make them comfortable, durable performers. Molded Plastic Armchairs are offered with 2 different metal base options, including a Wire base and 4-Leg base.
Designed in 1948, this was the first plastic chair to be mass produced. The current models look exactly the same as the originals and are now manufactured using more environmentally friendly, high-impact plastic. And today, the chairs are produced locally in Michigan by Herman Miller, just as the vintage chairs were.
Select from 10 colors: color classics Black, Red, White, Lime Green and Light Blue, and new 2010 colors Aqua Sky, Java, Wafer, Greystone and Sparrow.
A chair that looked like a potato chip. Another that resembled a "well-used first baseman's mitt." A folding screen that rippled...
With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look."
That look and their relationship with Herman Miller started with molded plywood chairs in the late 1940s and includes the world-renowned Eames lounge chair, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A clean, simple form sculpted to fit the body; first presented at the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, and still popular today. These chairs have achieved a pervasive presence that proves the staying power of good design.
Friendly to the earth, Molded Plastic Armchair shells are made of recyclable polypropylene and are dyed throughout so colors remain vibrant even after years of hard use. For extended comfort, the shell is connected to the base by rubber shock mounts. The standard glide is also available with felt to protect hard-surface floors.

Customer Reviews
Durable, versatile and classic.
I ordered this chair for a bedroom. I have previously had upholstered chairs and because I like white they have not held up well. The Eames armchair has worked out wonderful! It is comfortable, has style and does not need to be laundered or steam cleaned. I love it!

Beautiful, sculptural chairs
I love the entire Eames plastic molded eiffel chairs line. They're eco-friendly, modern, and interesting. I have 8 white ones -- 4 without arms and 4 with arms. I know that these chairs will still look good, and won't be dated, for many years to come.

Comfy and Stylish
We needed extra chairs for our dining room table and wanted a splash of color as well. These Eames chairs fit the bill perfectly--they look great and are super comfortable.

Great accent armchair for our eclectic house... Great price from YLiving and well-shipped.
Product is as expected - looks great and feels sturdy; a terrific addition.
Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
