Japan had a profound effect on George Nelson. During his first trip to Tokyo in 1951 and several more that decade, Nelson became fascinated with all things Japanese. That influence is evident in the 1952 design of his miniature chests. Reminiscent of tansu, cabinets with many small drawers used for storing a variety of items, the Nelson miniature chests provide wonderful little places to keep things. An interesting addition to nearly any room — whether at home or the office — these chests embody what Nelson appreciated most in Japanese design: "a sense of fitness in the relationship between hand, material, use, and shape." The tall 9-Drawer model includes drawers arranged vertically. Select with or without base.

George Nelson
When writing about the course of his remarkable 50-year career, George Nelson described a series of creative "zaps" — moments of out-of-the-blue inspiration "when the solitary individual finds he is connected with a reality he never dreamed of."
Nelson said that for a designer to deal creatively with human needs, "he must first make a radical, conscious break with all values he identifies as antihuman." Designers also must constantly be aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society. In fact, he declared that "total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything." So he said that rather than specializing, designers must cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.
Nelson did so as few are able, and, with the help of well-timed zaps, he helped define modern, humane design.
The Nelson 9-Drawer Miniature Chest feature teak construction, true to the original. An environmentally friendly rosewood stain replaces the original rosewood drawer fronts. Each chest boasts hand-fitted drawers (ensuring proper alignment so that wood-on-wood glides work smoothly), and a jewelry drawer (a drawer with dividers to organize and store small items). Select from two base options: chests without base rest on 3/8-inch-high brass glides. Chests with base have a four-star metal base painted white and fitted with adjustable glides. Metal drawer knobs are painted white to match bases.

I have dreamt of owning the Nelson 9-Drawer Miniature Chest for years.
I have always wanted to own this piece to organize all of my jewelry but never had the right place to put it. Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
