Charles and Ray Eames
A chair that looked like a potato chip. Another that resembled a "well-used first baseman's mitt." A folding screen that rippled...
With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look."
That look and their relationship with Herman Miller started with molded plywood chairs in the late 1940s and includes the world-renowned Eames lounge chair, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A clean, simple form sculpted to fit the body; first presented at the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, and still popular today. These chairs have achieved a pervasive presence that proves the staying power of good design.
Friendly to the earth, Molded Rocker Chair shells are made of recyclable polypropylene and are dyed throughout so colors remain vibrant even after years of hard use. For extended comfort, the shell is connected to the base by rubber shock mounts.

It is a very cool rocker!!
I love the rocker. It is an awesome, great color and very comfortable. I would recommend this chair for anyone who is interested in adding some "retro cool" to any room.

Unique looks, unparalleled comfort
I first ordered this chair on the advice of my designer. Despite being concerned that it looked a little TOO retro for my place, i ordered one and had it arrive in about a week.
The chair itself is ridiculously comfortable. Besides being a design statement, it also just *works* in a way that few chairs do. It's classic Eames design, and I've been very happy with it.
I know that there's some thoughts on the classic fiberglass vs the new plastic, and i don't have any complaints about the plastic. Get a fiberglass chair if you really want the old-school, but otherwise, this is just fine for 99% of us Eames Rocker consumers.
Rock on!

Best Rocker
Got this for my daughter's nursery, because let's face it, those ugly gliders and the baby stores just don't look good. This rocker is super comfortable and looks amazing (not so comfy for my 6'4" husband, though). These reissues do not have the cool fiberglass fibers in the original chairs, more of a monotone NEW look. The plastic is a bit flexible too. Now that my baby is older we have moved the rocker out into our livingroom to hang with our 2 LCW chairs and they are all very happy together.
Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
