Designed in 1930 to accompany the Barcelona Collection, the Barcelona Couch features the hand-buffed frame and hand-pieced leatherwork of traditional craftsmanship. Expertly crafted in every detail, the Barcelona Couch is formed of a Stainless Steel frame upholstered in 72 individual leather squares that are carefully welted together, then hand-tufted with matching leather covered buttons. A bolster in matching leather is secured to the cushion platform with straps complete with lock snaps.
For maximum comfort, cushions are constructed of premium quality, fire retardant, highly-resilient urethane foam with down-like Dacron polyester fiberfill. The hardwood frame of the Barcelona® Couch is constructed of Sapele Mahogany from Africa. This wood has oak-like strength and is characterized by a dark or reddish-brown color. The frame is finished with a protective clear lacquer finish. Legs are tubular steel in a polished Stainless Steel finish. A bolster in matching leather is secured to the cushion platform with lock snaps. Upholstery straps are cowhide belting straps in Black. The Couch contains 11 Black belting support straps over rubber webbing.
Select from five different Spinneybeck leather-grades available in hundreds of colors over Black strapping. Also available with strapping produced to match your leather selection.

Designer: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe began his career working in his father's stonemasonry business. After an apprenticeship with furniture designer Bruno Paul in Berlin, he joined the office of architect Peter Behrens, whose work presaged the modern movement. In 1912, Mies established his own office in Berlin, and later became a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and Director of the Bauhaus. He immigrated to the United States in 1938, setting up a practice in Chicago. His buildings include the German Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona Exposition, the Tugendhat Villa in Brno, Czechoslovakia, the Seagram Building, designed with Philip Johnson, a cluster of residential towers along Chicago's Lakeshore Drive in Chicago, and the Illinois Institute of Technology campus, where he was the director of architecture.
