Knoll

Knoll was founded in 1938 by Hans and Florence Knoll who sought to create new types of furniture and environments for the home and workplace. Their approach was to join craftsmanship with technology through the use of design and to create beautiful home furnishings that stood the test of time visually, functionally and practically. The pair sought out designers willing to change the landscape of modern design. With pioneering modernists like Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, and Richard Schultz they built a brand that today contains many of the hallmarks of modern design.

Knoll enjoys brand recognition throughout the world for its modern classics as well as groundbreaking new products formulated under new designer partnerships. Few companies can match the array of Knoll products, which combine a modernist aesthetic with residential appeal. This point of view nurtured by Florence Knoll, has become the trademark of Knoll design. The Knoll name offers a rich design history - a legacy of iconic designers and inventive new collaborations. Their focus on quality and responsible manufacturing means that each piece transcends multiple generations in both use and appeal.

Does the leather have some protective impregnation?

Asked by: Fips
Hi there! Knoll provided the following information about the belting leather they use. "Belting leather is a heavy weight, full grain leather that was originally developed during the Industrial Revolution to drive pulley belts and other machinery. With its thick, firm feel, this leather is 100 percent vegetable tanned and aniline dyed. The smooth, tight grain character is created from a unique blend of mimosa and chestnut and a premium selection of European raw material. Spinneybeck Belting Leather is processed in Santa Croce, a region of Italy with a strong heritage of producing some of the finest quality vegetable tanned leathers." https://www.spinneybeck.com/images/uploads/downloads/SB_BL_Installation_and_Maintenance.pdf If you have any further questions, please feel free to give us a call anytime at 866.842.6209 to speak to a Product Specialist directly.
