Overview
Design by Maya Lin, 1998.

Stones Seats offer modernized forms with the visual permanence and organic shaping found in nature. "At the heart of this furniture collection for Knoll is my love for the land, which can be traced back to my childhood in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio," says designer Maya Lin. "It goes back to a childhood fascination we all have — that moment when you discover that the earth is round…and you walk around trying to see that curve."
These stools feature a slightly concave seat. The molded Polyethylene/Recycled Polyethylene versions are fully finished and enclosed on the top, bottom and sides. And with proper care and limited exposure to the elements, Polyethylene Stone Seats without seat pads are suitable for outdoor use. Available with optional anchoring kit and weighting (see options below). Also offered in Cast Stone.
Notes:
The Maya Lin Seat is Greenguard approved. Polyethylene stones have integral color with a light texture and a low gloss finish. Recycled polyethylene stones are composed of 100% recycled polyethylene. Black specs will appear randomly on the surface of the stone. Color will vary slightly from stone to stone. Half-inch felt glides for indoor use are included.
Returns: No returns are accepted on this product.

Needs more sand
By: M.D., Homeowner (Las vegas, nv)
Nicely designed. Comfortable as stool but makes a great coffee table too. Purchased for my yard. Has a stopper at the bottom to add sand. I purchased the one with sand to give weight but the amount of sand they put inside is scant. Just buy the one without sand and add your own. Much cheaper.
Designer: Maya Lin
Frequently cited as a benchmark of modern cross-national design, Maya Lin's work draws influence from Japanese gardens, American Indian earthen mounds, her parents and her architectural design training at Yale University. While studying there as a senior, Lin won a nationwide contest for her controversial design of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial. Her career has been marked by her memorials, public spaces and keen sense of simple, elegant beauty. These elements are gracefully displayed in her work for Knoll, which includes outdoor seating stones, a chaise lounge and side chair. In 2003, Maya Lin won the Finn Juhl award for good design.
