Some 25 years ago, DJ Afrika Bambaata produced one of the most influential dance records of all times, "Planet Rock" for New York's Tommy Boy label. It was to become the blueprint for all future genres of electronic dance music. From hip-hop, to house, techno or minimal, Planet Rock is where it all started. The timeless appeal of the track can be found in the use of an austere beat emanating from the now legendary TR-808 Roland drum machine. Using the TR -808 as his muse, Bambaata introduced a whole new approach to creating rhythm … Not boombastic, but rather sparse instead, with a high dose of bounce and funk. The SG Planet Rock edition by kymo is an homage to this groundbreaking record: purist, minimalist, perfect in any combination ﾖ or just downright sleek.
