The Leif.designpark team met at Musashino Art University and graduated in 2001. After gaining experience in the design world, designers Takashi Ueno, Mamoru Naito and Keizaburo Honda, established Leif.designpark in 2006. Working on a range of projects including interiors, art and product design, the concept behind the studio, "Design Park" was to create a virtual drawing board, where friends, fellow artists and craftsmen are invited to cooperate on projects. Leif.designpark derives from this concept of a park, where people can come and go freely.
This Japanese-based design studio holds "monozukuri" in high esteem, and values the warm and playful relationship between a product and its user while staying true to the comfort of each environment. Their aesthetic is the result of applying "monozukuri", the art of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, to their products to construct modern and playful designs. Staying true to the historic Japanese culture, some techniques used include parquetry and weaving. Leif.designpark uses high-quality materials such as American black walnut, American white oak, American cherry, European chestnut, plywood, rattan, Corian and a variety of upholstery options.
Since 2007, Leif.designpark has been collaborating with the Portuguese brand and manufacturer, De La Espada. While De La Espada manufacturers the products, Leif.designpark maintains creative control.
