Designer: Niels Bendtsen
Born in Denmark, Niels Bendtsen and his family immigrated to Canada in 1951. In place of a formal design education, Bendtsen trained as an apprentice for his father, who designed and built Scandinavian furniture. Through working with his father, Bendtsen gained valuable skills and a respect for non-industrial, hand-built traditions, but he was also intrigued by new technologies and ways to satisfy increasing demand. Between 1963 and 1972, Bendtsen had his own retail store where he sold his father's furniture, as well as imported Scandinavian designs. He designed small items for the store, but it wasn't until he was in his early thirties that he truly began designing furniture. Dissatisfied with the quality and limited functionality of the furniture he received from his overseas manufacturers, Bendtsen sold his store, moved to Europe and became a full time designer.
In the 1980's, he moved back to Vancouver, bought back his old store and added a manufacturing component. Using the skills he learned working with European factories, Bendtsen successfully found a balance between affordability, aesthetics and quality. Customers responded , and in the mid 1990's Bendtsen began making his designs available through other retailers.
Bendtsen's eye for simplicity and honesty is clearly visible in the sofas he has designed for the renowned Zurich based furniture brand, Linteloo.

Manufacturer: Linteloo
Linteloo was established in The Netherlands in 1993 by Jan te Lintelo.
Born into a family of furniture retailers, Jan's parents started a business, te Lintelo Wonen, which became one of the most successful stores in the region with leading international furniture collections. In his spare time Jan helped his parents in the shop, appreciating the craftsmanship of furniture making at a young age. He attended college in Rotterdam and soon started his career with cabinetmaker Pastoe in Utrecht. After several years with Pastoe and later Gelderland he decided to start his own company, Linteloo.
Linteloo was a departure from the popular Dutch Design influences of the nineties, starting a new concept with a feel-good factor that is now a famous element of Linteloo designs. Today Linteloo is a leading furniture brand with showrooms in Zeist (The Netherlands), Cologne (Germany) and Milan (Italy). Continuing to expand their reach, Linteloo now delivers comfortable designs for easy living all across the globe.
