Satyendra Pakhalé
Born in India, 1967. After completing his Master of Design in India and Advanced Product Design in Switzerland, Satyendra Pakhalé initially worked at Philips (The Netherlands) for a short time. Among his assignments was the interior for the Pangéa concept-car developed in collaboration with Renault. In 1998, he set up his own design practice in Amsterdam. Since then he has been working on his own projects and on designs for diverse industries in many different countries. Renowned companies such as Alessi, Cappellini, Colombo Design, De Vecchi, Erreti, Magis, Moroso and RSVP (Italy), CorUnum (NL), C-Sam (USA/UK), and organizations like Material ConneXion (USA) rank among his clients. Satyendra Pakhalé works in wide range of disciplines, bringing to his design a set of fresh perspectives and a diversity of strong cultural influence, particularly relevant in today's society. His design emanates from cultural dialogue, synthesising new applications of material and technologies with great ingenuity. He is able to combine east with west, craft with technology and function with fun.

Herman Miller's 3D Intelligent back material is a seating technology designed for the SAYL™ Chair. The 3-dimensional mesh-like suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair just as cables are stretched from the towers of a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar regions and between the lumbar area and sacrum. "Hinge points" allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.
Y-Tower
Y-Tower is the primary support structure of Herman Miller's SAYL™ Chair. The Y-Tower retains tension, replacing the traditional frame of task chairs. It works like the towers from which a bridge is suspended and combines with a 3D Intelligent suspension material to provide frameless back support that hugs the user's back from resting through reclining, forward leaning and twisting motions.
