Mater Bowl Table
Overview
Design by Ayush Kasliwal, 2012.
Made in India by Mater.
Mater's Bowl Table encapsulates India's emerging design scene. Designer Ayush Kasliwal took inspiration from local traditional furniture fabrication and applied his training from the National Institute of Design to create this modern table. Made from sustainably harvested natural mango wood, its wooden lacquer tray is a nod to regional craftsmanship, while the steel legs make a contemporary statement.
Kasliwal's devotion to making functional furniture is apparent in the Mater Bowl Table. The tray easily comes off for transporting or using as a bowl. This is a wooden table that can be placed in small spaces, used as a focal piece in a room and set up around sofas for a casual dining experience. Select from Natural, Sirka Gray or Black finishes. The Mater Bowl table comes in Small, Medium and Large.
Mater's Bowl Table champions the sentiment of functional modern furniture. Designer Ayush Kasliwal created this modern furniture piece out of homage to regional artisans in India. The wooden tray comes off its steel legs for easy transportation or to use on its own.

Gorgeous wood table
By: N.P., Designer (philadelphia)
I too was surprised by the wood coloration when I first opened the box, but it was a pleasant surprise. Each bowl top is a unique piece with subtle and dramatic color variations in the woodgrain. The table is beautifully designed and the legs screw into the top in an instant. An art piece!
Practical and beautiful

Upon opening the box, I was surprised at the color of the wood, as it was not as blonde as it appears in the photograph online. After several minutes of dismay (because the tables are not returnable), I accepted the discrepancy and set up the tables in my guest bedroom. They look great and take up little space in the little room, yet still provide ample room for a bedside lamp and books galore. Though I wish the wood was more blonde, I love the tables and they are a perfect design for a home such as mine that is filled with a mixture of furniture from different periods of time and place. Knock one star off for the color of the wood.
Designer: Ayush Kasliwal
As one of India's hippest designers, Ayush Kasliwal has cobbled together a style that marries contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship. Kasliwal developed his aesthetics while studying at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. Inspired by both Rajasthan artisans and ancient crafts, Kasliwal uses stone carvings, marble, bird cages, beaten brass and mirror when making his "artefacts". His main goal is to produce objects that are as utilitarian, as they are fun. A quick browse through his products reveal his funky take on everyday items such as tables made from wires and candlesticks created out of stones. Kasliwal has mastered the unique ability of applying modern visual sensibilities to traditional fabrication methods and creating objects that highlight India's hip design scene.
