Founded in 2006 by Henrik Marstrand, Mater has been recognized and applauded as a global pioneer for creating sustainable, eco-conscious, and socially responsible designs. With a name derived from the Latin word for "mother", this Copenhagen based company operates on three key principals (design, craftsmanship, and ethics) that rings truth to its name. Having developed a strong moral code, in partnership with the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Confederation of Danish Industries, and gained the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mater is able to maintain their social responsibility by promoting international humane programs that allow for local crafting traditions (within underprivileged areas) to continue through employment opportunities. However, Mater's overall responsibility does not end there; Mater's eco-consciousness and sustainable methods not only reduces the company's environmental impact but avoids the exploitation of nature as well.
Mater's strength in modern design and durable products equals that of the company's moral stand-ground. With such beautiful pieces that stand apart, enjoying them has never been so guilt free.

Regarding his work with Mater, Bracher says, "Working with mater is a chance for a designer to connect with local artisans to exchange ideas. With globalization the world is losing indigenous crafts, which is why an awareness of preserving such crafts is increasingly important. They're not only expressions of our cultural diversity; they also represent a wealth of experiences and know-how that are essential resources in developing novel concepts and designs."View other products by Todd Bracher
