Modern Stools: When you need a boost

A few things to consider while shopping for modern stools:

Height. Modern stools are largely available in 2 heights: counter height and bar height. You want about 8-12 inches between the bottom edge of the counter surface and the top of your legs. Most countertops are 36 inches off the floor; therefore a standard seat height of a corresponding modern stool is about 24-26 inches. On the other hand, bar countertops usually measure 40 inches from the floor and hence most modern bar stools are 29-31 inches in height. For high bars, you can find extra-tall modern stools as high as 34-35 inches.

Quantity. 30 inches from the center of one seat to the next is a good general rule for how far apart stools should be placed. Count the inches of the surface they'll be surrounding to figure out how many modern stools you need.

Features. Backless modern stools can be tucked away under a counter to free up space. Have friends who are bar flies? Consider arms on your modern stools for comfort for long evenings. A swivel feature can be helpful with heavy modern stools that could create damage to a floor if they have to be moved around.
